Description: Superb solo acoustic bass effort from one of downtown's best bassists. Hill Greene gets around and has had a diverse career working with Charles Gayle, Dave Douglas, Marc Edwards, Kevin Norton and is that Louie Belogenis/Roy Campbell Quartet CD from recent years. Hill has composed all but two tunes here, covering Ornette's "Lonely Woman" and Stanley Clarke's "Bass Folk Song". Solo bass records are not as rare as they used to (check out Malachi Favor's or William Parker's or Miroslav Vitous'), but it is certainly a test of creativity and spirit. This one is especially touching, tasteful and elegant. Stanley Clarke's "Bass Folk Song", gets those strings buzzing with phenomenal and dazzling power. "IONO" features some somber bowed bass that reaches into the depths of lonely vibes.
