Label: Workbench 01           Country: USA
Format: CD           Status: AVAILABLE           $14.00

Description: James Beaudreau, veteran of such groups as 'The Billy Nayer Show' and 'Grand Mal', presents here his first album on his own: 24 solo acoustic guitar pieces, 20 of which are totally improvised.
"A collection of 24 brief, homespun instrumental acoustic & electric guitar improvisations, with elements of folk, the knottiness of The Old Bailey, and nice occasional touches of Brazilian rhythmic weightlessness. There's a reflective, almost questing tone to many of these pieces; one gets the impression that as he's playing, Beaudreau isn't necessarily thinking about the music as object, per se, but instead on outside elements of a personal nature which in turn drive the music TOWARD something - a frame of mind, a place once visited, a fading memory, or simply a conclusion. With that said, the album ends with a pregnant pause and an uncertain note, left hanging and unresolved, offering no answers. This is beautiful, deeply felt, PERSONAL music, the exact flipside to the more clinical "we showed up, we played, let's put it out" sort of improv records that've been flooding my eardrums lately and boring me to tears. Highest recommendation!" - Mikey IQ Jones.
